All his life, Michael Friis Johansen has been obsessed with two things: travel and words—especially words found in books. He was born in Ontario but wandered the world (essentially homeless) for several decades before settling down permanently in Labrador—a region he fell in love with the first time he set foot there at the tender age of 19 years. Johansen has lived and worked as a journalist and editor throughout Canada, Guatemala, Indonesia, Germany, and elsewhere.

Johansen is the author of countless newspaper and magazine articles and four fiction and nonfiction books. He has been recognized several times for his writing and reporting in Newfoundland and Labrador, and his first novel, Confession in Moscow, was shortlisted for two book awards. At his home in North West River, which he shares with his wife Winda and their dog Pepper, he is busy writing more books and also serves as the town’s librarian. Separation Point is his second novel.
