This September, we were delighted to participate in The Word on the Street in Toronto. The festival is the largest in the country and a highlight of the Canadian literary calendar. This was its 36th annual edition.
Attendees benefited from advance access to our two newest titles, Nurse Fortescue and Doctor Paddon by Dave Paddon and Cotton Gloves and Rusted Anchors by Mandy Ford. Both titles are set for official release in November, and they are available for pre-order now.
Ironically, Morgen travelled to The Word on the Street from her home in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, where Brack and Brine is based, while Mark travelled from Toronto at the same time for an at-sea celebration of Nurse Fortescue and Doctor Paddon near Indian Harbour, in Labrador! It was quite the switcheroo—but that’s book culture for you: it’s all about stories bridging people and communities.
Certainly we hope that Toronto enjoyed its taste of Labrador books. There are plenty more to come. And it was a pleasure to connect with readers, writers, fellow publishers, and book lovers of all kinds.
A big thank you to the lovely staff and volunteers at The Word on the Street, and another to all the folks who stopped by our table to pick up a book or to have a chat!
